Hemsö to build upper-secondary school in Västerås
- Non-regulatory informationThe City of Västerås has selected Hemsö to build the upper-secondary school, Widénska gymnasiet. The planned building will comprise a leasable area of approximately 5,800 sqm and the total investment is an estimated SEK 150 million.
The new upper-secondary school will lie adjacent to Vasagatan in Västerås, Sweden, close to several other knowledge centres along the street, including the Västerås campus of Mälardalen University and the City Library. The school will accommodate about 480 students and the City of Västerås has signed a 15-year lease.
“We are both proud and gratified to be entrusted with the development and construction of a modern school in Västerås. Hemsö owns, and has constructed, a large number of school buildings across Sweden in recent years and currently has four ongoing school projects,” says Jonas Jalkander, Head of Region North at Hemsö.
The new building is square-shaped, with three floors. The compact form of the building will bring all of the school’s activities closer together. At street level, an interior street will serve as a meeting place with a café. The first and second floors will feature seating for socialising and learning on bridges and balconies. The school is scheduled for occupancy in 2018.
