Capella – Karlastaden’s public property

A safe and vibrant neighbourhood

The new Karlastaden neighbourhood is emerging at Lindholmen in Gothenburg. It will be a new and modern mixed-use city for housing, offices, hotels, education, health care and commercial premises of about 270,000 square metres.

Buildings and streets in Karlastaden are named after mythology and constellations. Hemsö’s community property is located in the Capella neighbourhood, which takes its name from the brightest star in the constellation Kusken.

The neighbourhood consists of two parts. Hemsö is developing premises for healthcare, schools and care services in the property, which has 11,500 square metres of premises. The second part will contain residential units with commercial elements on the ground floor.

The tallest building in the residential section is 17 storeys high. An underground garage with 700 parking spaces will be built under Karlastaden.

The Capella project is a collaboration between Serneke, which developed Karlastaden and runs the construction projects, and Hemsö, which develops, manages and owns the public property.

Construction started in autumn 2021 and occupation began in autumn 2023.
