Health care building in Turku
Hemsö is developing a new 4,300 square metre health care building for substance abuse treatment in Tallbacken in Turku. A 20-year lease agreement has been signed with the Varha welfare area of Southwest Finland. Hemsö’s investment amounts to EUR 15 million.
The new two-storey building will bring together the previously dispersed social services in Turku under one roof. Each unit will have its own entrance and will have spaces that can be separated from other patients if necessary.
Kirsi Viheriäranta, Project Manager at Hemsö in Finland– Varha is Hemsö’s fourth largest tenant and the largest tenant in Finland. We are pleased to further expand our long-term co-operation.
– During the planning phase of the new health care building, we involved both patients and representatives of the different units. We captured the needs and challenges of the daily activities to ensure that we create synergies between the units. The new premises support multidisciplinary collaboration along each patient’s care pathway. The living spaces are designed so that they can be adapted to support living at different levels, says Kirsi Viheriäranta.
Sami Salmivirta, Regional Manager for Varha– This efficient centralisation of services ensures that our customers receive high-quality and fast service, which is important for the Varha welfare area of Southwest Finland. The co-operation with Hemsö has been smooth and flexible.
– The user’s perspectives, wishes and needs have been taken into account during the planning phase. We expect that the co-operation will continue to work well in the future, says Sami Salmivirta.
Construction started in summer 2024 and occupancy is expected in autumn 2025. The new building will have energy class A and Hemsö’s ambition is to certify according to BREEAM Excellent.
