The Hemsö Gift spreads joy

Hemsö’s care and nursing home tenants could apply for a Hemsö Gift in 2024, which included a henhouse, a bicycle, a greenhouse and outdoor furniture.

– It was a bit of a shock when we got the good news that we’d been awarded a contribution to build a roof over our pergola. It means a lot that the users can get shade on hot summer days,” says Ann Rickhammar, operation manager at Dagverksamheten, Värmlandsgatan 16 i Norrköping.

We are so happy that in the future we can do activities outside whether it is sunny or if it rains.

Attendo Kungshamn in Nacka, Stockholm has a green garden that encourages outdoor activities, socialising and activity. There are cosy patios with space for meals and a herb garden for scents and flavours. Many of the plants attract butterflies, bumblebees and bees. There is also a beautiful fountain.

This environment will now also include an outdoor café, as they requested when they applied for the Hemsö Gift.

– I was very happy when I handed over the gift because this will allow them to intensify their focus on the garden where they have different activities like barbecues and concerts.

The Hemsö Gift shall:

  • go to activities in Hemsö’s properties
  • be outside Hemsö’s regular operations (e.g. do not replace renovations)

  • go to something that can be used by both staff and students/residents over a longer period of time (e.g. greenhouses and sandboxes, not parties and dinners).
